January 8-16, 2009, Dr Alvetro, Dr Terrence Allemang, Dr Ron Riebel, Dr. Damen Patel, Dr. David Forsthoefel, Dr David Menning, and a support staff traveled to Tarime, Tanzania, Africa for a dental mission trip.
This is the 3rd trip for Dr Alvetro and Dr Allemang. It was the 1st trip for the other doctors. While there, approximately 548 people were seen and treated! Each year the people of the village and surrounding villages eagerly anticipate their arrival. Everyone works hard until the sun goes down. Electricity isn’t very reliable in that area of Africa! Doctors working while assistants hold flashlights is frequently seen.
Dr Alvetro and staff began working with Grass Roots Ministry in 2005. This ministry was working with a group of orphans in Tarime. Since beginning her association with Grass Roots, all of the orphans have clothing, shoes, bedding and attend school. A new building which will better house the orphans is currently under construction. If you would like more information about helping the orphans, contact anyone at Dr Alvetro’s office

Ranae Bornhost, winner of the March contest to match the Dr Alvetro office team to their favorite cartoon charater. She won a gift basket with 4 bowling passes and shoe rental at Bel-Mar Lanes, Sidney, pizza and pop.
Thomas Harvey guessed the correct amount of 222 "gold coins" in the "Pot of Gold" contest in March. He won a $50 gift card. Congratulations!

On March 20th and 21st, Dr Lisa Alvetro in coordination with 3M Unitek hosted an in-office training course. The course included instructions for and demonstration of placement and removal of the Forsus Functional Appliance. She also discussed the benefits of using the Smart Clip Self Ligating Braces. Doctors and Staff from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Minnesota participated in the 2 day course. Several 3M representatives were present also. The first day included observation and instructions on patients in the clinic. The second day included lectures and a round table discussion. At the round table discussions other areas of orthodontic practice were covered, including marketing, hygiene instruction and compliance, scheduling, and statistic tracking. The visitors also enjoyed a catered meal and social time on Friday evening.

Ashley, Holly and Maurya from the office particpated in the Altrusa Club's Adult Spelling Bee on April 2, 2009, this was the 1st year our team particpated in the event.The Altrusa Club provides scholarships. Our team placed 10th out of 19 teams, and had so much fun we signed up for next year's Bee.

In June, July and August Dr. Alvetro's office held a contest where a fish bowl was filled 
with "gummy" fish candy. Everyone was able to guess how many fish were in the bowl. Each month the person who guessed closest won 4 tickets to King's Island Waterpark "The Beach". In June the winner was Kyle Miracle. The July winner was Linda Temple and the August winner was Kresha Givens. Congratulations!

On September 24 the office of Dr. Alvetro was host to Community Blood Center Blood Drive. The office provided the location and homemade food for the donors was also provided. There were 49 units of blood drawn that day which surpassed the goal of 45 units! What great support from the community! The next date for Dr. Alvetro's office to host will be September 9, 2010.

Dr. Alvetro and staff held their annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest for the referring dental offices. The pumpkins were delivered to the offices by Team Alvetro and each office tested their creative skills. No carving was allowed. The pumpkins were then placed on display in Dr. Alvetro's office for her patients to vote on. Winners of the contest received lunch for the entire office courtesy of Dr. Alvetro.
